Intel this week introduced the latest members of its Intel NUC Pro family: the Intel NUC 12 Pro devices.

The Intel NUC 12 Pro line offers features not available before on an Intel NUC Pro. These include Intel vPro Enterprise with 12th gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, Intel Iris Xe graphics, up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and wired Ethernet connectivity with a 2.5 Gbps port.

The Intel NUC 12 Pro line, originally codenamed Wall Street Canyon, is available now in mini PC, kit and board SKUs. The Mini PC version maintains the Intel NUC line’s small form factor, measuring just 4.6 x 4.4 x 1.5 inches.

As the “Pro” designation indicates, these devices are designed for use in business, especially by small and medium businesses (SMBs)

Intel exclusives

Here’s a quick look at some of the device’s new features.

Intel vPro Enterprise is enabled on select Intel Core processors, yet it offers features beyond the CPU. These include enhancements for performance, security, Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, management and stability.

12th gen Intel Core processors deliver business-class performance, enterprise-grade security and remote manageability. To configure an Intel NUC 12 Pro’s processor, you’ll have 5 options: the Intel Core i7 with vPro technology, Intel Core i7, Intel Core i5 with vPro technology, Intel Core i5, and Intel Core i3.

These processors include Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT), which provides persistent out-of-band connectivity independently of the OS. Intel Hardware Shield, also included on the Intel Core CPUs, protects against cyber-attacks below the OS level.

Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 is the company’s second-generation wireless module. It supports dual-stream Wi-Fi in 2.4, 5 and 6GHz ranges, as well as Bluetooth 5.3. It’s also backwards compatible with Wi-Fi 4 and 5.

Intel Iris Xe is a dedicated GPU for PCs. It supports multitasking, video calls, photo and video editing, gaming and more.

Customizable components

Customers looking at these new Intel NUCs will find lots of options.

For one, they can attach up to 4 displays. The Intel NUC 12 Pro makes that possible with one pair of HDMI 2.0b ports and another pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports.

In addition, the Intel NUC 12 Pro devices include three USB 3.2 ports. Select models have a fourth USB port with an SD card-reader expansion model.

Storage options allow for a lot of customizing. There’s a slot for PCIe x4 Gen 4 NVMe SSD. Another slot for PCIe x1 Gen 3, Gen 2, USB 2.0, and SATA SSD. With an optional taller box, you can get support for a third SSD, too.

You’ll find OS options, too: Windows 10, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, and various Linux distributions.

The devices are qualified for 24x7 operations. And they all come with Intel’s 3-year warranty.
